com ______________________________________________________________________________ Overview The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for managing a two person grade crew, setting grades, and operating a motor grader and skid steer to place and grade gravels.
Work may also include operating a mini excavator to complete various earthwork activities and assisting the paving crews when needed.
The ideal candidate will have prior grader operator experience, job site layout experience, be self-motivated, and have a good work ethic.

Pave the way to your future with Blaktop! Duties, Responsibilities, & Requirements Arrive 30 minutes prior to the crew to get ready for the day's work.
Ensure that all equipment is fueled and ready to go before starting work.
Responsible for ensuring that equipment is kept clean and that daily maintenance is being done.
Meet with the superintendent and/or salesman to inspect the jobsite and review the requirements of the job before commencing work.
Responsible for job site layout and checking grades.
Communicate the requirements of each job to the crew members.
Communicate and work with customers and contractors to address any jobsite issues as they arise.
Communicate job changes and issues to the Paving Superintendent and/or Salesman.
Act professionally.
Responsible for the quality of each job.
Complete daily paperwork, such as filling out job cards, equipment inspections, etc.
Comply with safety rules & work in a safe manner.
Ensure that the jobsite is cleaned up before leaving.
Operate a motor grader and skid steer to grade gravels to the proper pitch and elevations.
Assist the paving crews and milling crew when needed with site prep such as sweeping and cold milling as well as the installation of hot mix asphalt.
Perform manual labor duties such as raking and shoveling gravels as needed.
Operate a mini excavator to perform various earthwork activities such as replacing culverts and ditching.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Previous grading experience required.
Ability to do basic math and layout a jobsite, such as line and grade.
Excavator operator experience preferred.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
CDL-A license preferred, but not required.
Ability to lead a team.
Ability to lift and carry heavy loads and climb steps and ladders Valid driver's license required.
Strong work ethic.
Work Environment Work will primarily occur outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
Will be required to work long hours and sometimes weekends during the construction season.
Work will occur in a road construction type setting, which will involve exposure to various hazards such as dust, vehicle traffic, elevated noise levels, etc.
